The Hawthorne Kids After School Program
HAWKS
HAWKS is Hawthorne’s after school program that accommodates students who go to Hawthorne. Students may attend HAWKS regularly, or on a drop-in basis. Students check in to HAWKS at dismissal time and need to be picked up by 6:00 p.m. Snacks, organized activities, quiet time, and homework time are some of the facets of the program.
Hawthorne HAWKS is supported by parent fees, Greater Gallatin United Way KidsLINK, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, and the Bozeman School District.
Mini-HAWKS
Mini-HAWKS is a program for students in grades K-3 and is held on Fridays from 2:15-3:15 to accommodate 2:10 dismissal for those students every Friday.
Early-Bird HAWKS
Early-Bird HAWKS provides care for students from 7:15-800 each morning. Early Bird HAWKS participants can eat breakfast at Hawthorne beginning at 8:00.
Program Goals:
- To provide an activity program for Hawthorne students after school and various other times when school is not in session.
- To provide a safe and nurturing environment.
- To provide positive role models and positive social interaction.
- To provide an environment which is cheerful and relaxing, while engaging in activities designed to encourage social interaction, motor development, creativity, curiosity, and cognitive growth.
- To provide a quality service that is affordable to the majority of working parents.
- To maximize the use of existing educational facilities and resources.
Location:
Unless otherwise noted, students check in for the HAWKS program in the school cafeteria. If HAWKS plan to leave the school grounds, the destination and time of return will be listed on the HAWKS whiteboard in the cafeteria.

Please call our main office at 522-6700 during business hours, or our cafeteria at 522- 6726 during HAWKS hours to register or for more information.
A Typical Day with the Hawks
- Greeting and check-in
- Snack time
- Play outside
- Art, gym play, computer lab, library time, or other special activities.
How do HAWKS learn to be responsible?
HAWKS put their toys or art supplies away before moving on to a new project.
HAWKS are responsible for hanging up their belongings and making sure that they keep their area neat and clean.
HAWKS help clean up after their snacks.
A few words from the HAWK kids:
- "I like it when we go bowling and swimming with HAWKS. We play a lot of games at HAWKS and I like it when we play Bingo."
- "I like HAWKS because we go to the gym and go on field trips and the snacks are very good."
- "We get to do lots of fun things at HAWKS. One of my favorite things is going to the library."
- "HAWKS is fun because they give you lots of activities to do and the teachers are nice."
