IMPLEMENTATION ACTION: Elementary and High School District RECOGNITIONS March 28, 2005
SUPERINTENDENT'S RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution:
WHEREAS The National Association for Music Education has chosen to honor Lowell Mason for introducing music instruction to American public schools and establishing teacher training in music education through the Lowell Mason Fellows program;
WHEREAS Acceptance into the Lowell Mason Fellows program is a distinction reserved for music educators, music education advocates, political leaders, industry professionals, and others who have contributed to music education;
WHEREAS At the 2005 Fund for the Advancement of Music Education Dinner on March 10, 2005 in Washington, D.C., Renee Westlake of the Bozeman Public Schools was formally recognized for her contributions to the field of music education;
THEREFORE Be it resolved that the Board of Trustees recognize and honor Renee Westlake for her acceptance to the 2004 class of Lowell Mason Fellows.

WHEREAS Members of the Bozeman High School Symphony Orchestra have excelled as musicians through their hard work, dedication and talent;
WHEREAS Through competitive taped auditions AND live adjudication at the National School Orchestra Association Competition in Reno, Nevada, the Bozeman High School Symphony Orchestra received a national third place:

WHEREAS Bozeman High School's BPA Chapter participated in the 2005 State Leadership Conference in Great Falls March 6-8;
THEREFORE Be it resolved that the Board of Trustees recognize and honor the following:

DISCUSSION: The Reading Specialists will present the current research in the area of reading. This information will provide the foundation for the re-writing of the Communication Arts Curriculum.

IMPLEMENTATION ACTION: Elementary and High School District DISCUSSION March 28, 2005
DISCUSSION: Members of the High School Facilities Team will present their progress to date and seek advice from the Board on issues that have been identified or issues the Board may introduce.
At the Team's meeting on March 9, 2005, the following motion was passed unanimously: "That the Team recommend to the Bozeman School Board that the CJMS facility and land be used for the high school facility."
Also at that meeting the Team discussed the appropriate size of site for a high school and middle school; heard a report from Steve Johnson concerning the cost to a District taxpayer for a new middle school and renovated high school; and received a report comparing all AA high school populations with the size of each school.
